Hey guys, just a quick question. I recently built a new PC and I want to install my old HDD that I used with my old rig. I'm currently running Windows 8.1 on this new PC.

Question is, how do I install my old HDD into my new rig? Do I have to uninstall/remove the old operating system first? (Windows 7). Or do I remove the old operating system once it's installed in the new PC. I'm not really sure about how I should go about this so I thought that I'd ask here first.

Thank you very much, if you need any further information then let me know.

If I were to delete a certain partition, would that remove Windows 7 and none of my other files? Sorry, I'm not very IT savvy, so I'm not exactly sure what constitutes a partition.

I would recommend deleting all of the partitions before you plug it into new build, just do a format on it and then plug it into your new build. If you try to run your old hdd with your new specs your likely to run into some issues along the way.

i take it you dont want to lose the other files on the hdd? you will have no trouble installing the drive as long as its not set to be your boot drive.if you want to get rid of your windows 7 system files you can simply delete them by double clicking on the drive and deleting the windows folder.

Yeah that's correct; the old HDD will be used simply for file storage, it won't be what I want to boot with. Where do I delete this from, System management? Thanks.
