That depends on what your budget is, and what you're using it for. EDIT: You read my mind CTurbo. 
If you're gaming and getting an i7 would take away from what you could spend on the GPU, get the i5. If not, then get the i7.
In gaming there's often no real difference between the two. Recent games like BF4 may be starting to change that, and i7s are performing better. For the most part thought the i5 is more than good enough.
If it's for other usage like video encoding then you'd be better off with an i7.
