Black Screens in Some Intensive Programs

When I start to play some intensive programs like BF4 or running multiple programs at one time my computer black screens. When I turn on my computer now it will not boot up and the CPU or GPU fans will not spin. I have a 4.2ghz OC on my 2500k which has worked flawlessly for 3+ years. In the last months this has happened. It stopped doing as much when I upgraded my GPU to a 670 from a 560 ti, and when I cleaned out the CPU cooler. Do you think I need a new motherboard or just to down clock my CPU if I can ever turn it on. Waiting for it to cool down (if that is even the problem) as I am writing this. Thanks.

How did you achieve your overclock? Auto set by some software program or did you manually adjust using a detailed guide?

What are your current temp ranges looking like? Please be specific (cpu idle, load, gpu idle, load, mobo, anything you deem significant)

Perhaps you've seated the cpu poorly enough that it shuts down or throttles now and a simple reseat could do the "magic trick".

Look at the capacitors on your mobo; any signs of wear and tear? What mobo do you have? Is it a "z" model? Do the capacitors looked "bloated" or burnt?

Try running in default (I assume you have saved your oc profile whether you achieved it auto or manual) and play bf4 etc and see if the issue persists or not.

Please update with any more details that you may deem helpful.

That's what I though but temps on my cpu never go above 60c and my gpu never goes above 75c even in intensive bf4. I have a p67 extreme4 b3 revision (the non black and gold version, yes it is fairly old) and none of the capacitors look abnormal. It hasn't been able to boot up since, so I have not been able to change my overclock. I did the overclock myself and all had to do was up the CPU multiplier to 42X with the 2500k and it never crashed on me until this year. I bought and build it in 2011/2012. I will try my friends power supply since I have read in a few places similar problems that were due to a malfunctioning power supply. I have a corsair tx650, its an old one that is only 80+ certified, not even 80+ bronze. Corsair has a 5 year warranty so if it is the PSU, Corsair should send me a new one for free. I love their customer service.

Try resetting cmos and clear the jumpers, or just remove the battery for 1min and return it to reset your bios. You'll lose your overclock but it sounds like you didn't really put any work into it anyhow. Of course do all of this with the cpu shutdown. Please let us know what progress you make and good luck!
