I recently bought a new laptop with 1 X 120GB SSD (Boot drive) and 2 X 750GB mechanical. This came with W7 home premium already installed so as a result, I used windows disk management to setup a RAID-0 between the 2 X 750GB drives.

I would like to change the raid setup from a software RAID (using windows) to a hardware RAID (using the intel RAID controller on my motherboard).

Is it possible for me to make a windows system image, create the RAID-0 using my RAID controller and then reinstall the system image without windows looking for the second drive to software RAID?

tl;dr
I want to change my software RAID-0 to hardware RAID-0. Can I do this using a system image or is there a better way?

Nope, do a file level backup. hardware raid the drives and then restore the backup.

Ok thanks. Is the default windows system image tool a file level or block level tool?

What free software would you reccomend for this?
