I have a a8 3870k with a a75m d2h motherboard that does nothing put make the fin spin for a half second and then stops when I attempt to power on. I did the paper clip check and the psu is working. The fans spin when the atx 12v pin is not connected. I'm not sure what else to try. Any ideas?

Nah sorry I actually sold one a long time ago because I didn't want it anymore for my htpc. I would try for sure to get a real processor like the fx series or an intel. Intel will work better for a lot of the mmorpgs if you are into that kind of thing

I figured it out. It wasn't super obvious when I purchased it, but it looks like whatever is right next to the atx 12v pin is blown (vram?) I didn't notice it when I purchased the board so I'm not sure if it worked before, but I have a feeling it didn't. Now it looks like I've just got an apu :/

Like a capacitor? or one of the tiny looking chips. If you look at your board and see any burn marks that normally is a good sign that the motherboard is dead. Your power supply may have blown your motherboard so I would contact both gigabyte and who ever made your power supply for rma support. normally when stuff like that happens the board isn't regulating the power correctly, or the power supply is faulty

I purchased the board used on craigslist and I got the board and apu for a 60 bucks so I kinda feel like he threw the board in knowing it was dead. He never responded to me after he sold it so that's kinda what I figure, the psu worked with the previous motherboard that I had so I won't be sure until I test it again. Although I did try it on my brothers hp sandy bridge motherboard and I didn't get anything either, but I have a feeling I did something wrong. His board still works fine though since I put it back in his case. Idk, the board is for sure cooked though. Now I need to see whether my PSU is any good still, but I have no other boards to test on. Like I said I did the paper clip test and I got the fans to work, whether it's putting out the right voltages is another thing altogether, but I don't see why it wouldn't

I would guess that just the motherboard went with it then. You can get fm1 motherboards and power supplies new for fairly cheap now. You could probably get them both for $75 or 80 bucks together. You could try taking the power supply to a local computer shop and have them test it with a tester for you, normally they will do it for free.

Ha I have the APU already, but now I've overspent for it since I have no motherboard. I wouldn't really wanna spend more than 25 bucks on the motherboard, which is probably unrealistic new. If you have any links I'd love to check em out.

If you got these two you would probably be set for a while PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Motherboard: MSI A55M-P33 Micro ATX FM1 Motherboard ($45.97 @ OutletPC)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $70.96
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Both are well built and will actually last you. They also have good warranty's.
The only other thing that I could think of you trying is look at the serial number on the motherboard and call gigabyte and talk to them. Normally they still are able to give you a replacement for 2nd hand parts

I have a feeling this PSU is still good and it's 650 watt so I'll try and keep it. Honestly I'll probably just try and recoup some losses and sell the apu and upgrade the build to an fx series or go intel if I really wanna dig into my pockets. If you're interested in the APU let me know

Ha yeah I know, this was just a build I used with money I got selling the parts that were in this computer which my neighbor put on the curb. It was a cute little processor I was hoping to max out for the time being but oh well :/
