Computer Freezing For a Few Minutes Randomly

Every often or so my computer freezes for sometimes a minute, or sometimes ten minutes. This happens at all times. It may be more often when playing games but it only may seem that way because I'm usually only on to play games. When I'm playing games I'm only running Raidcall, Battle.net Client, and of course the game itself. I will occasionally have a Chrome browser open with a stream playing or a music site. I've heard this is the start that your hard drive is failing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This has been happening for awhile but it seems to be getting more frequent and longer.

My Computer (Main Parts):
Windows 7 Home Premium
GeForce GTX 760
Intel Core i3 CPU (540 @ 3.07GHz - 4 CPUs
4GBs Ram
465gb Harddrive (Currently can't take apart computer to get specifics)

Yes I have run CCleaner, and it seemed to do nothing. I always keep my PC clean from extra files and junk and keep a minimal amount of programs installed. I'm currently having to store almost 100 GBs of photos on this PC for family purposes. Could that be causing it?

Since I currently don't have the money to get a new harddrive, I have an 1TB seagate USB harddrive. Could I use that to run the computer off?

Any specific way to clone it? I've never done this sort of thing and sadly I don't know where I placed my old Windows 7 key.

Before I dive into it I have a quick question on how to set your USB drive as your starting drive? I've attempted this in the past and was never succesful.

Alright, I found a free program called EaseUS to clone it to my external harddrive. Hopefully all goes well and I can avoid these random freezes. So basically never unplug the external one or my computer will crash I assume?

It's in the process of cloning :). Assuming it is going to take awhile. Thanks for you help guys, really appreciate it! I'll let you know how it all goes after I get it booted up again.
