How many VRAM do I need for video editing?

I'm moving to a new PC and starting to making videos, but I need to know which is the best VRAM quantity that I need for video editing (Sony Vegas, Final Cut or Adobe Premiere CS6) without the lagging.

Just the video memory is not an issue, you can get many low end cards with 1 or 2 gig of RAM. You'd want at least a mid range card to get good GPU boosted performance, which is separate from just the memory amount in the card.

You should start with a budget you can spend on the video card and just ask which card would be best for you.
