Is it better to invest in gpu, or apu?

Would it be better to invest in an AMD APU, or a discrete card?

I've read the performance of an APU depends on memory speed. Makes sense since it relies on that memory in lieu of the GDDR5 on a discrete card.

So would it be better to get, say, an A10 (upper-midlevel for APUs I think, ~$150-ish) APU (r7 series integrated graphics) with 8GB medium speed-- 1600-- memory (budget brand/series ~70.00-ish) to higher (RAM) speeds, or a half-decent ($110 - 150 range) video card with 4GB 1333 memory (budget ~44.00-ish)? (8 is better than 4 in any scenario I'd think, but I'm just trying to illustrate a, to the best of my understanding, equalized comparison.)

Or, a little off the point, a low-end card (my current card- an r7 240 pci-E), with a mid-level APU (~$55 - 85)?

Here is one of the sites I looked through- has a decent chart:

Kind of a really specific post as far as my comparisons.. I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Whats your overall budget? If at all possible a dedicated GPU is better as it has better performance and allows upgrading unlike an APU, since your GPU and CPU are the same thing. If you can't budget for a $100-ish card like a 7750 and a decent CPU like an i3 or a 6300 then pretty much just get an APU.

Well, I am already over budget. I have an X4 740 (3.2ghz) that's RMA. I got it for 75, I have an R7 240 gddr5 that i got for 65. I could probably sell the R7 for 50/55 on craigslist.. which would give me 125 - 140 tops for an APU. The A10-7700K Kaveri is 150-- I might swing that if I'm feeling good, lol. Though... it doesn't really offer specs. It just says it has an R7 series IG. R7 240? 50? 65? 65 PCI-e is like $160. (And comparing specs of R7 on A10 w R7 240 PCIx vs 260... it seems like the Kaveri has on board what I have now..) If it *is* basically like a 740/50.. I might as well stick with what I have GPU-wise... and maybe throw in an extra 15 for a 4GHz athlon ii X4. Though-- considering that... I'm still not clear on whether that 10/15 bucks would be better spent instead on a lower-end APU to be augmented by the R7 PCI. Number numbers numbers. I have given up for tonight/morn. I might make a cup of coffee and sit down to mull over the options in 20 hours or so! Any thoughts though would of course be much appreciate!!

Also, the post was also to shed light on whether it's worth sacrificing GPU power to Crossfire (is that right?) with an onboard chip and faster RAM. I think. It's late. Will check back later.

I have an R7 240 PCI card w 1GB GDDR5. I am sending back the CPU and memory, I will be getting 4 or 8 GB DDR3-1600, and one of the two APUs-

AMD A8-5600K 3.6GHz, AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz
