So i built my own PC (finally!), but I know I'm having problems with my CPU (i5-4570) overheating FAR too much. The CPU will idle around 40-50c and while ran under load with prime95, it immediately shot up to 100C, the ceiling. Strange thing is, even while playing CPU intensive games, it doesnt get any hotter than idle temp. I am using the stock cooler, but i have already ordered an aftermarket cooler (T4) and some arctic silver 5 thermal compound.

Can someone please explain why it might be doing this?

Solution
getting an aftermarket cooler with arctic silver 5 as you mentioned will solve this issue. arctic silver 5 is the best nominated thermal paste out there. and when you install the new thermal paste.

-remove old thermal paste with rubbing alcohol

-add dot/pea sized drop on the cpu not to much! DO NOT SPREAD THE THERMAL PASTE THE HEATSINK WILL DO IT ITSELF.

-add in heatsink nice and tight.

this worked for alot of people this will help you to! :)

Cables are all tucked away behind the motherboard (case has space for cable management), so no cable management problems. And the case has 2 120mm intake fans and 1 120mm and 2 140mm exhaust fans, so airflow is not a problem either.

ah, no, i did not. I just used the compound that came with it. But I was planning on applying my own when it comes in from amazon.
