Because it relates to the prior mode, the HD or windows is set up on.

In other words depending on how and what interface mode is used.

If you look in the bios and the mode for the hard drive is set to Sata.
Then you are required before installing windows, where on the main page you are asked what hard drive to install windows to. if you reach that point.

To pre load the sata driver for the interface the drive is selected on in the bios.
If you were provided with a driver cd, then it should be inserted and you should select the sata driver. Once loaded. a drive should be listed to install windows too.

This step must also be done if when presented with where to install windows no physical hard drive is presented in the options of where to install windows.

It will lead to the error of 0xc000000f meaning it could not find a device to install or setup windows too.

The short route is to go into the bios and set the hard drive mode to AHCI mode.
To avoid the error if you do not have the disk with the sata driver for the board to install in windows setup by selecting add or load driver.

Windows does not have the Sata driver native to the Sata device control chip to the board at setup.
So it must be installed or added before continuing where and what drive to install windows too.
