I'm thinking of building a gaming pc and was hoping to run games on ultra settings, with nice fps, would these specs do that?

Cpu: intel i5 4670k
Mobo: gigabyte ga-z87x-ud3h
Ram: g.skill ripjaws x 8gb (2x4) 1600
Gpu: gigabyte GeForce gtx 770 oc

I'm thinking of overclocking the cpu, would that improve the performance and if so, how much?

I have a Zotac GTX 770 and it runs Battlefield 3 on ultra.

I was hoping to play games like bf4 and crysis 3 on ultra, would it work for that? Also what fps do you get?

Battlefield 4 on Ultra only gets around 30fps so I play on high instead. I don't have Crysis 3.

No overclocking the CPU will not make any real difference. At stock speeds it can max all games. The GPU is the limiting factor. BF4 should max at 1080p but Crysis is coded very poorly so it might not max. More like high settings there.

You would get around 27-ish FPS with 1440p so I'd estimate around 37fps with 1080p:

I run a 780 & from experience I can tell you it's extremely demanding and pins my GPU & CPU at max and I only get around 49-65FPS with 1080p on ultra 4xmsaa, So I honestly doubt a 770 can do ultra :/

Is there any point overclocking at all? To get faster performance? Faster speeds while using normal apps?

You should be able to run most games on ultra on that rig, but it really all comes down to resolution.

If you mean playing at 1920x1080, 1920x1200 then yes - you will get good fps in almost any game out there.

Anything above that resolution wise, and you might be looking at min. framerates hitting 20-30.

no, overclocking is mostly a hobby and it really see any difference you need to be doing big overclocks on older CPUs. A modern CPU which can already max games does not really benefit from overclocking at all. Like I said, it is a hobby.
