By default, if 5 computers are using the same router, all 5 can communicate between each other without passing through the routers firewall. Is there a way / router that lets you set the firewall on cross local packets?

A practical use for such a thing would be cyber cafes, libraries, airport wifi.

It is a common function on commercial firewalls and switches to be able to filter layer 2 traffic. It is mostly a limitation in the hardware on consumer routers. SOME you can filter with dd-wrt third party software but it not all models of routers have the proper chips in them.
