It looks like its been almost a year since it was discussed, and even then it looks like there was differing opinions and with what looks like big advancements in graphics cards and monitors, maybe there is a consensus now.

What is the difference now between DVI and HDMI and which is better?

I understand that HDMI includes audio signal, but does anyone really listen to audio thru their monitors? I don't. So really, I am primarily concerned with visual difference and superiority. Or is there other aspects that should be considered?

Thanks

Not a lot of difference then OR now between the two if used as a pure monitor connection. For a simple comparison: http://www.cnet.com/news/hdmi-vs-displayport-vs-dvi-vs-...

The only time you'd pick one over the other is if your only have that connection type on your equipment or you need something specific like a smaller connector or a screw-in connector for a device that gets moved a lot.

For audio, many people use computers connected to a TV, and many of those don't bother hooking up the sound output to a different source. HDMI is very good for this use. My TV is connected to a nice sound bar via optical out, connect laptop to TV with HDMI, and I get sound though the sound bar without having to connect the audio out jack. Many basic users also don't care about sound quality and would use the built in speakers on monitors if they have them.

There are times where DVI and HDMI output quality look different but that varies from device to device so you can't just say DVI looks better or vice-verse, it depends on the device.
