WD passport backup question

if i set up my hard drive to back up my computer then delete folders from my computer, will they also get deleted from my hard drive? i want to store things on my hard drive which aren't on my computer as my computer memory is too full. is this possible?

Yes you can do that but its not a backup. A backup copy implies there is an primary copy.

Also backup software will likely see the deleted files and then delete them from the backup. AS mentioned it depends on the backup type and software.

You'll want ot use your drive as just external storage and treat it just like an internal drive. Install programs you want to run from it there (dont expect great performance from a usb2 drive) or move programs to the drive and back into the main drive when you want to run them. I suggest copy & delete rather than cut & paste method.
