Hi,
Sitting in boxes I have:
i7-4770k
H100i cooler
Thermaltake Chaser Mk 1 Full Tower (VN300m series)
Win 7 Pro 32/64 bit oem

Bu I am stuck (have been for a while!) as to which mobo to buy that will run both my Sonar X2 DAW software as well as run MMO's
Most of the DAW work will be via my Roland keyboard patched into the PC, from drums to bass - well everything with the occasional Live input from guitars.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you for your time!

There are three parts to this reply:
1. You DO want these features. The fan one allows you to control the fan speed so you can find the sweet spot between airflow and noise. Otherwise you will have to run your fans at noisy 100% and that is not good for when you are doing music editing and mixing work. And the USB one makes your usb drives work even faster, it's great for copying over large audio files.

Fan Xpert 2 - The Most Customizable Fan Controls
USB 3.0 Boost - Faster USB 3.0 with UASP in Windows 8

2. "I have heard that some boards get bogged down when you start having too many audio tracks running. I am just trying to make sure that what I get will handle all of that with ease."

This is not true unless...

Hi RC,
First, Thanks for the reply.
And yea, I know that can pretty much pick up almost any 1150 socket board and it'll run both my gaming and my DAW s/w.
What my Goal here is really, to find the *best* board currently around that will potentially hold SLI or Xfire when the time comes for the gaming as well as a sound card if needed for the DAW input depending on the final build.
I have heard that some boards get bogged down when you start having too many audio tracks running. I am just trying to make sure that what I get will handle all of that with ease.
The board you recommended has:

  • Dual Intelligent Processors 2 with DIGI+ VRM
Remote GO! - One-stop PC Remote Control and Home Entertainment
Fan Xpert 2 - The Most Customizable Fan Controls
USB 3.0 Boost - Faster USB 3.0 with UASP in Windows 8
Most of which I don't really require.
For the sake of succinctness, price is not that big of a deal to me, just need one that's pretty much on the cutting edge for primarily DAW work and 2nd, gaming.
With that in mind, any other recommendations? I am actively looking, but I am still at a dead end which is holding up my build so I am basically at <<<pulls hair out>>> stage :heink:!

This is not true unless you are using the cheapest, crappiest boards out there. Mid level boards can handle everything that high end boards can, just not tons of overclocking (because of the extra voltage involved, not because of the workload).

That ASUS board I recommended to you is the newest board type on the market. It will do SLI gaming wonderfully and will even handle overclocking because it is a Z series board. You will never run into a situation that it can't handle with ease. The only reason you would need to spend more on a board than that is if you are going to be competing in overclocking competitions.

RC,
THANK YOU!:D
You have allayed all fears I have had when choosing the board. Based on the info you have provided, this sounds like a very solid solution for my build. I had Not considered Fan Noise, but you are right.
Now - Off to find the board and continue on!

Best Regards,
Rustyd
