I've a Dell Optiplex 755 and someone has broken off the mic jack in the front mic port, rendering it useless. I thought "simple" as I plugged the new mic into the back Line-in/mic port (it's labled as both with both symbols and colour code) The mic works so long as you have rear input selected as your default recording device, however... the speakers play everything the mic picks up. So apart from hearing yourself, it feedbacks frequently.

This computer needs mic support, but without hearing everything the mic picks up over the headset. Several google searches have turned up nothing useful, any help would be appreciated!

Can you open the case without breaking warranty?

If so, you can disconnect the connection between the motherboard internal audio and the front audio ports. But ask for confirmation on this from someone else, since i'm not an expert.
