Hi I feel like a fool for having to ask as this should be one of the simpler parts of my computer build, but I'm having a pretty big problem installing my stock cpu cooler.

I'm using the Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 motherboard and have already run into an issue installing the NZXT Kraken x40. My case does have a 140mm fan opening over the cpu but the ceiling is too low in combination with the UD3s huge heatsinks.

I decided to throw on the stock cooler while waiting for something like a Noctua D14 or NZXT Havik 140 to arrive, but for some reason the latches on the stock cooler will not fit onto the mounts on the motherboard. I've looked up a few youtube videos and it looks like everyone elses latches just fall into place with no effort at all.

I'm starting to resort to some heavy pressure but I can hear either the cooler or the motherboard creaking at this point so I'm giving up and asking for help for now. ):

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Solution
Are you 100% sure the cam is in the right position to allow installation.

If you have it on the wrong side it will be too short, but on the right side, it should slider over both sides with ease.

Maybe a picture will help.

I do. I had taken them off when attempting to install the Kraken x40 but have re attached them. The clips on the stock cooler won't both reach at the same time. The latches are connected through the fins by a bent piece of metal so that when one is attached the other latch is too far away to even come close. As far as I can tell though, it is supposed to be bent that way...

Now I'm trying to take the motherboard back out of the case to work on it better, and when unscrewing it from the standoffs several of the standoffs stayed attached to the screws and now one of them won't budge at all.

What a bad first experience lol.
