Question to all filmmakers, amateurs and professional alike. There is one store where I live where I would like to film. However, i would like to film it secretively because I am not sure I am allowed to film there. I have a bigger size camera Fujifilm SL1000 photo/video camera. How would it be possible to shoot video without anyone knowing? Any tips or advice? Thanks.

I agree. Ask them. If they say no, go elsewhere and ask them.

Many , many stores have an active policy of no filming inside.

Why, pray tell, do you wish to film something secretively? Please explain your intent. What type of film project is this?

You are treading on (potentially) very shaky legal ground by doing as proposed. You could be fined, arrested, have equipment confiscated, etc.

In a good many places what you propose constitutes a felony, with some serious penalties.

Even for security cameras, some countries/states require by law to have signs informing people they are being recorded.

Echoing what everyone else has said, this is not a good idea and may (probably will) land you in legal hot water. Ask permission and make sure you get something in writing. Not sure about the law but think if you record anyone for longer than a certain amount of time you may also need that person to sign a waiver. If you want to be respected as a filmmaker then you absolutely must respect the privacy of others. Ask, the worse they can do is say no and you move on.
