A PC noob in need of help !

So, I was using my friends old gaming rig (for gaming) and one day while playing a game I noticed a weird subtle metal burning smell (which now I know was more like an electrical smell.) The next day playing I smelt it again but stronger, now I realize Its coming from the PC. 2 minutes later it instantly shut down.

The PC wouldn't react to hitting the power button besides every fan twitching (then nothing). Later I realized the power supply was making that smell and is now shot.

After ordering a new power supply (that is well within its means to power what I want) and plugging everything back in. Still nothing except fan twitches when attempting a boot.

I checked if everything is plugged in right like 5 times. Something else went wrong and idk what. Lights in the sound card and mother board light up when power supply is turned on.

I need you wisdom PC ppl !

Look on the motherboard for any signs of burnt out parts. You'll notice discoloration or bubbling. You can also try to reset the BIOS by unplugging the system from the wall, removing the 24-pin and CPU 4/8-pin connector, and removing the CMOS battery (looks like an oversized watch battery on the motherboard) for about 5 minutes. Then pop everything back in and try again.

What motherboard/power supply do you have now?

Sounds like the board may have been damaged also.
