How to migrate OS to SSD?

Hello,
I am thinking about getting an SSD for a boot drive and to install some larger applications onto. Is there some software that would just allow me to clone the OS across and not my files. I would like this as I have about 600GB worth of files and documents on my HDD and I have no way of backing them up unless I paid for an online backup. Is there any software which would just allow me to clone Windows 7 across? I have seen this software but I am unsure of whether it would allow me to just migrate the OS? https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hdm-personal/

Any thoughts? Thanks

Yes, that's mostly it.

Gather ALL of your install disks, files, and serial numbers
Set the BIOS to AHCI mode
Have only the SSD connected
Install
Once everything is running, connect the HDD
Continue installing your applications. Some on the SSD, some others on the HDD

Okay thanks. I have considered that, why would you recommend the fresh install?

Guaranteed to work. Just from reading in here, the probability of fail is far larger when trying to migrate.

Thanks for the advice. How would I go about doing it then? Just install windows 7 onto the SSD and then delete it on the HDD (sorry for my lack of knowledge)
