recovery corrupted files

I accidentally shredded some folder's I didn't mean to last night using AVG Shredder. So I went and got Recuva and did a deep scan over night. It recovered quite a lot of files but they're all corrupted... Is there anyway to recover these files? Should I do a scan again or should I try a different; perhaps more powerful recovering software?

AVG Shredder is designed to destroy files so they specifically cannot be read off of the hard drive again.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if the program worked properly, they are gone forever.
