How well does the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 Ivy Bridge perform on games?

Is the Xeon E3-1230 V2 perform on games because it does well on a benchmark test, but I've read server processors aren't as good for gaming. Also is it compatible with the asus p8z77-v pro? I've heard that typically you need a server motherboard to use a server processor.

So, this is from my experience running tests.
My 4770k at stock (a xeon with the gpu) scores 750 on cinebench

If I disable hyperthreading (essentially an i5) I get a score of 540 (this is slightly higher than what the i5 would do due to 33% more cache.

No ht and at 4.5ghz I get a score of 664. Equivalent to what an i5 would score at the same speed.

750 vs 664

I would go with the xeon. It is more powerful, you will be using it within warranty, and it will stay more current for longer

When the cpu is the bottleneck the 4770 (essentially a xeon) preforms 20% better than the i5. You would have to overclock the i5 to around 4.5ghz to get the same...

Many here recommend it because it has similar capabilities to a locked i7 cpu (It has the 8 threads/4 cores). The reason why something like a 4670k might be a bit better would be because of overclocking, and not everything takes advantage of the xeon's hyperthreading. Xeon also doesnt have an integrated gpu, but you would likely be getting a graphics card anyway so that's less of an issue. Just because it's a "server" cpu doesnt mean it cannot work well for gaming as well.

*Also, I believe the latest version of that level of cpu is the E3-1230 v3

Yeah it is, but I couldn't find the v3 on newegg so I was thinking about settling for the v2 as they don't have much of a difference from what I've seen.

Which would likely not happen with a 212 or if you get a bad chip. Even if you could overclock it to 4.5ghz you would be stressing the cpu and shortening its lifespan probably in half or in thirds
