I'm trying to print some black and white versions of photos. I have gone into the settings for my Epson XP-410 and selected "black/greyscale" in both the Main and Advanced panels. However, the printer continues to print in color and I am not sure why or what to do at this point. I tried restarting my computer after changing the settings and printing again - it is still printing in color.

Is there anything I can do to get it to actually print in blank and white?

thanks for your help

Is it colour image data you are sending to the printer?

On most models, if the printer is fed colour image data, it will print it using all the inks regardless of the grayscale setting in the printer driver.

First you need to convert the image itself to grayscale in your image editor and feed that to the printer, there is no need to set grayscale in the printer driver in that event unless it yields a more pleasing result. Print with and without grayscale setting enabled, then compare the two.

This has nothing to do with the convoluted answer above. The epson xp-410 has a chronic problem with the pin head getting clogged on the black ink. The part that stabs into the cartridge. Clean it with a q-tip and blast it with compressed air.
