Hello:
I have been very unhappy of my USB 2 and USB 3 thumb drives transfer rate.
I have two computers running on Windows 7 and Linux respectively. Both PC have only USB 2 ports.
Normally, my Windows 7 PC can only manage to transfer files at 5 to 10 megabyte per second for either USB 2 or USB 3 thumb driver.
Yesterday, I downloaded and installed Ubuntu 13.10 on my other PC. I inserted an USB 3 thumb drive to the Linux PC and transferred a one GB file from the drive to the PC Linux desktop. To my surprise, I was getting about 100 megabyte per second transfer rate from the Linux setup.
I am going to do a few more testing tonight and see if the average transfer rate is 100 megabyte per second under Linux platform.
Anyone shares similar experiences?

Interesting. Independent tests carried out some years ago actually proved that USB transfer speeds were consistently higher on Linux than on Windows XP (but not as vast a difference as you've experienced).

However, I have no idea how you managed 100 megabytes/sec as that's way above the 60 megabytes/sec maximum that USB 2.0 is physically capable of regardless of the OS.

Actually, I forgot to update this post. It went way down to 20mb per second while I retested it.
