Overclocking i5 4670k, ASrock extreme3?

Solution
So 4.0GHz no problems - even with a stock cooler. Anything over 4.0 look at getting a better cooler.

You just use ASRock's UEFI - Extreme Tuning Utility. Go to Overclocking. And Raise the CPU Ratio to 40. Hit Apply and wait 30 secs. Go back to Hardware Monitor and check that you are running at 4.0GHz. And that your CPU isn't get too hot. You might have to raise the CPU fan rpm if the CPU is getting too hot (say more than 15C hotter than ambient while on idle.

If you want to go more than 4.0GHz you might need to raise the CPU voltage offset while overclocking. Google it for more details. You should really test your over clock say by putting a load on the CPU with say Prime 95 and seeing if the CPU doesn't get too hot. The PC will shut...

That is a very light overclock. You could possibly get away with even using the stock CPU cooler. It's something that I don't exactly recommend, as just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. By using a Cooler Master 212 Evo CPU cooler, you could manage an overclock of 4.2Ghz and beyond.

If you are asking for instruction on how to overclock let me know. I'm not sure if you were asking if an OC of 4.2Ghz is ok or if you were inquiring of HOW to overclock to 4.2Ghz. Post back and clarify if you will. Thanks! :D

should be no issues, I overclocked a 3570k to 4GHz without touching the voltage and to 4.4GHz with a little extra voltage on the extreme3.

Lots of guides around, but basically increase your multiplier up to 39 or 40 and run some stability tests. Set the crash guard in the bios to 1, so if it fails to boot once, it'll go back into bios.

Once you hit a wall, you'll have to start adding a little voltage, use offset voltage and add in very SMALL steps. Use openhardwaremonitor to check the voltage and temps when stressing the system, ideally keep below 1.2v and 65C.

Make sure you have an aftermarket cooler, like the evo 212.
