Reusing parts of a pc

Right, I asked earlier (maybe a week or so) about a list of pc gaming parts for my first build. Thanks to some advice from the community, I managed to have found a better cpu that was actually within the same price as the other one. I forgot your name but thanks for informing me on the "Bulldozers".

But now I have a new question, this might sound pretty stupid, forgive me It's my first time. I was just wondering if I could, format, then take out a 500 Gb 7200 RPM hard drive from an hp desktop, p2-113w is the model of the pc. I'd link it, but in fear of the link engulfing this post, just google it.

After looking at the specs, it's no way a gaming pc. But actually having experience playing games on this pc, which I'm using right now, I thought that reusing it's hardware could cut down costs, that way I could invest more into a better cpu or gpu.
Tl;dr, I want to reuse the 1 X 4 GB DDR3 X 1333 Ram stick and
format the 500 Gb 7200 RPM Hard drive within a HP pc.
Thank you for reading and I appreciate any advice you could give me on this.

Yes The hard drive will work you will just need to connect the sata cable to the new mobo. The ram will work as long as you aren't mixing and matching it with new ram. If doing that is quite more complicated.

So if I format the hard drive, that HP recovery goes away too?

And btw, thx for replying, I didn't expect a response so soon.

Thanks for the reply,

Here's the Mobo I'm going with.

pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-970extreme3r20

It listed 1333, so I figured asking this would be safe :)

Yes when you format the harddrive everything goes unfortunately :(

Yeah, you should be good to go. If you do decide you need more RAM later on down the road, try to match what you currently have or just consider dumping what you currently have for a set of 2/4 RAM module kit to get the dual-channel benefits.
