I bought a wireless adapter from TP-Link. It's a model TL-WN822N. It is compatible for windows 8 and as far as I know I have installed the drivers correctly, but I must have done something wrong. Right now I am getting 3.5 Mbps, but I know I should be getting a lot more. The wired computer in the other room is getting around 16 Mbps so I should be able to get at least 10 Mbps out of this thing. Can someone please walk a newbie through the steps and see if I can boost my speed a bit? It should definitely be faster.

Solution
After a bit of tweaking with settings and stuff I managed to fix the problem. I'm getting 15 - 16 mbps now which is all my ISP provides so I'd say that the adapters and drivers are working fine.

The only thing I changed was the wi-fi channel of my router, since I live in an apartment complex and a lot of people were on my channel, I switched over to channel 1 and things are working perfectly. Not sure why it only slowed down once I got the new adapter, but I wont argue as long as it's working how my old one was before, thanks for the help. :)

What you get from a wired connection doesn't really have anything to do with the wireless side. What is the model of wireless router you have?
There are many other factors that can affect wireless speed also; proximity, whats in between the router & computer, other wireless devices (not cpu's), other routers nearby on the same channel, etc.

I owned a wireless adapter from the same company ( just a different model ) and was getting much better performance, nothing but the adapter has changed. :/ Old adapter died after about 6 months of use.

Not nowing what you had before, or your router, If they were the same company, that generally produces the best results. TP is not a bad product *for the price* & sometimes that is the issue, it is a cheaper product & looking around the web, their performance seems to vary.
