I have a gateway dx4850-27eu. i am looking at getting a GTX 770:

GTX770: http://

I just want to make sure this card is compatible with my system. I dont know if sli ready means it wont be compatible with my mobo or not. I am upgrading to a 650 watt power supply and 8gb ram. Is there anything i need to know before choosing a video card, and if you guys have any suggestions on different video cards that i should look at.

Thanks

SLI ready just means that you are able to pair up GPUs. What you need to look for is that the power supply will deliever enough amps on your 12volt rail for the GPU and have the neccesary connections (I believe a 770 is two 6pin PCIe power cables), and that your motherboard has an available PCIe 3.0/2.0.

No reason to worry about the "SLI ready". The GTX 770 will work on your PC with no problems - from what I gathered your MoBo has a PCIe x16 slot which matters and also you are getting a new PSU.

thanks. not planning on getting two, just wanted to make sure it was compatible with my mobo and the sli didnt effect anything. do you guys have any recommendations on GPU. I was looking at that 770, r9 290, r9290x. All the reviews say make sure the amds are the non reference cards, which i am unsure what that means. would you guys choose the 770 or either of those?

Non-reference means after market cooler by the card partners such as AMD, Sapphire, Power Color, ETC. Instead of the blower style AMD reference, they have different coolers that help a lot with that card. Although I am a nVidia fan, you will see more performance from a 290/X than a 770.

Reference cards means that they come without any factory overclock and have no aftermarket cooler. You may pay a little extra but make sure the cooler the card comes with is efficient. The coolers on reference cards are in a way like a stock cooler on a CPU - noisy and not very efficient. Like for example in this article http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/r9-290-accelero-xtr...
