Can this rig be silenced? Completely?

Hi people

I’ve got this problem: My rig is ok (though I eventually will get a GeForce GTX 770) … but it is loud as hell, and I mean really, really loud. Can this demon be silenced? I just want it to shut up, like really shut up. How quiet can this fiend become?

Thanks :)

XFX Core Edition FX-787A-CNFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit G DDR5 PCI Express 3.

Don’t remember the name of my CPU-cooler, but everything is noisy on this rig.

i would use 3 120mm fans intake on the side and front and exhaust on the top and with your power supply.

make sure your cpu fan is connected to a pwm plug. this makes sure you are getting full modulation on your cpu fan speed. If that CPU fan is making allot of noise I would consider reapplying your thermal paste to get better temps and lower fan speeds.

So the idea here is to get the absolute best airflow possible so that your CPU and GPU do not have to run hteir fans as much.

I just picked up another 7950 twin frzr from craiglist and it is one of the first models and is really loud.

I had to first take it apart and reapply the thermal paste and clean out the fans and that lowered temps by 10-15C (most of this improvement is...

I need to know what case you are using.

In general if you can mount very large fans on the bottom front and the top rear you can achieve much quieter fan noise.

also compressed air can never be underrated

This one: Cooler Master Elite 310 Tower No PSU Black/Orange ATX

Dreadful - I know :D

And found out my CPU-fan: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro.

I had to first take it apart and reapply the thermal paste and clean out the fans and that lowered temps by 10-15C (most of this improvement is from dust removal), but it was still to loud.

I have this card OC'd to 1050 (it will break 1200MHz but it is crazy loud), after I found a good overclock I started undervolting the card. I found even when OC'd i could lower the voltage from 1030 to a stable 990 (I leave it at 1000mV just for stability in benchmarks).

So great case airflow, cleaning and possible undervolting have left me getting around 15-20C less heat produced and has also lowered my fan speed by the same 15-20%.

The most important thing is always going to be that case airflow. (shop around and find the best noise to airflow possible)
