I will try to be as specific as possible.

I built my PC in June 2013. I currently use a gtx 680, Asus p8z77-v motherboard and a corsair 850W. With my first gpu, if I played some games, the driver would crash and sometimes recover. Even though they were well within my GPU's capabilities. I sent that one into EVGA and they sent me a new one. The second one would artifact, driver crash and basically the same thing. I had the first one for a few months and the second one for a few weeks. I got my third one and the same issues now occur but now I cant even boot without going into safemode. I changed my PSU to my current corsair because I thought I was undervolting my system with a 550W. Now I believe my motherboard is the problem and it has been this whole time. I recently called EVGA just to ask them about my previous GPUs. They said the first one was actually messed up but the second one wasn't, so now I want to see what I can do to test the motherboard. Or just any helpful hints. Sorry if this is long, I just wanted to get all the information out. I will update this if more info is needed. I have reinstalled different versions of the nvidia drivers, earliest I could find and the latest. Same issues still arise. Thank you for your time.

It doesn't appear to be a directx error. When it crashed, the notification went something along the lines of "Nvidia Display Driver has crashed but has been successfully recovered." I also dont think that DirectX would affect boot, but I'm not sure. I wouldn't be able to take a screenshot because it seems as if the nvidia driver is never able to start with out crashing and causing the system to reboot.

But thank you for your reply.

Thar's what my first thought is too, but it is now going on for a third time on this system. Seems like it happens too much and that the gpu might not be the cause but it ends up with the damage. Also, I had the same issue with the second GPU from EVGA and they said nothing was wrong with it but they sent me a new one anyway.

I had the same problem and also switched to a new psu with no difference. It turned out to be my motherboard, but it was an old 2007~ p6t that came to the end of it's life, not a recent one like yours.
