It's been a while since I upgraded my mobo/cpu, long story short my current mobo is defo on the way out, so I'm looking to upgrade to lga1050
Looking at the 4670k or the 4770k.

Current specs:
I5 3470
Z77 extreme 4
Palit gtx 780 ti
Hyperx Kingston 1866 2x4gb
Kingston 120gb ssd
Numerous hdds
Corsair h105 cpu cooler

Things that are important to me:

Oc ability as I am looking at a K series cpu.
Value for money! (Budget not a huge issue but value is!
Minimum of 6 prefer 8 sata 6gb ports.
At least sli capability for future.
Good number of fan headers.... At least 5 prefer more.

Things that are NOT important:

Colour scheme. Don't care what the board looks like, fractal define r4 case non window version.

Been looking at the
asus z87 pro
Gigabyte z87x udh3
Maximus formula hero
Msi g65 gaming

Pc will be used mainly for gaming

The main point is quality and value with a good feature set.
Open to any suggestions....
Any help appreciated :)

I mean the Hero would definitely be a great choice here, as the o/c capabilities are enormous, should you go with a 4770k (HyperThreading) / 4670k (Non-HyperThreading).

I do not own a Hero, however I do own its bigger Brother, VI Formula.
The OC capabilites are exactly the same if I am not mistaken, as all the VI models from asus maximus are using the same UEFI BIOS.
I bought the mobo last week and it is currently running 4770k@4.7Ghz without voltage augmentation.
For cooling I am using air, to be precise the Zalman CNPS9900 DF. Under Prime I was around 83°C average for 117 minutes @ 100% load on all 4 cores, although it was a bit noisy, the cpu and the system were stable (Ram was manually set to 1600 Mhz as it was a pure CPU test).

I...

Sorry as stated the mobo is toast.
I have another system so it's not urgent.
I know the cpu is ok, and the mobo,
But the mobo is DEFO toast
Cpu will be used in another system.

As to why the uograde?
:)
Why not :)
That's why we all have pc's isn't it?
Because we love getting our hands dirty and fiddling ;)
Otherwise we would just all have a ps4 or xbox 1 ;)
Thanks again guys

sorry i didnt realise(understand)! then i would vote for the asus hero, has great o/c potential! also make sure you have a quality psu!

The asus hero does seem nice, do you have experience with this board?
What would you reasons for that board choice be?
I'm not up to date on the z87 boards so would like pros/cons etc for each board if possible.
Thanks again for the replies

I hope I was able to provide you with an idea of how good the OC cab's are on these boards, but there is much much more you can actually tweak.

The €80 price difference between Hero and Formula is most likely due to the just a little bit better OC performance, more connectivity features (WiFi,BT,DP,...). So if you are short on money go for Hero as it is just a 'light' version of the Formula, if money is no prob, the go for the Formula, if tweaking is really important for you, otherwise Hero would do the trick, or even Z87 Pro.

Hope this helped ;)

EDIT:
You wanted some pro and cons, well I mean the only real cons are the price tag on Hero and Formula not to mention Extreme but besides that... I can honestly not think or any setbacks I had while installing it, these mobo's are just the top of the line, they would not sell as crazy as they do, would there be a huge list of cons to them ;)
