Hello. I built a new system that worked fine, but was forced to remove my discreet GPU and now when I'm using the onboard Intel HD 4600 on my haswell i5-4670K I experience random hard-lock / freezes while playing different 3D games like Diablo 3 and Elder Scrolls Online. These freezes have not happened when a game is not running. These freezes do happen when a game is running on background and I'm on desktop.

The freeze is just a complete lock-up. The screen stays on, the pictures is freezed on the screen. Fans still running. The computer doesn't respont to *anything* else than keeping the power button pressed a few seconds to get it reboot.

I have not overclocked anything. I did not experience these lockups or freezes when I used my discreet gpu. I have tried the drivers on from the mobo's install cd and the latest drivers from Intel's website. They both freeze.

These freezes are quite rare. Maybe 2-4 times a week while using the computer about 10-12 hours per day but still are very annoying specially when playing a MMO or diablo 3 on hardcore where deaths are permanent.

The cpu/integrated gpu runs usually at 60C while playing, I have the stock cooler.

I'm curious if this is mobo or haswell problem or a driver problem.

My setup:

Win7
Asus Z87-A
i5-4670K
Kingston HyperX 2x4GB, DDR3 1600MHz, CL9 ( KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX )
FSP Aurum Pro 850W PSU
USED to have Radeon 7950 (while using this, no freezes and I had not enabled the integrated gpu yet)

have you uninstalled amd driver?

btw try to re-run Windows Experience Index with intel HD 4600 (without amd driver)
if it still freeze, you got a bad chip (cant run 3D)

Yes, I removed the AMD driver with AMD's removal tool.
I removed the card as I sold it.

When it locks up try ALT+Tabing again, I have a similar issue where the screen "appears" to be frozen when in fact there is an invisible overlay.

Tried, it doesn't work. And like I said, the computer doesn't respond to anything else than keeping the power button down multiple seconds. The reset button doesn't do anything.

Try running with just one stick of RAM. First one stick, then the other.
