GPU Driver failed after 11 min of Furmark

Hi there!

So I've received a new GPU after 2 faulty ones in a row (first build, yey).

The GPU is running good, planetside is running good. But in the middle of the screen in Planetside 2, i see tiny, tiny unstable lines.

I ran Furmark, and after about 11 minutes of running, the driver failed and restored. No reboot was necessary.

This happened 2 times while running furmark, and one of the times; the screen artifacted after driver restore.

The first time the temp was hitting 71 Celsius and the other that it was stable around 45 according the ASUS GPU Tweak.

I'm running the 13.12 drivers i think.

The card is a MSI Radeon R9 280x OC Edition - currently at 1020MHz and 6000 mem according to gpu tweak.

I haven't noticed unstable signs whenever I don't run furmark, but Planetside 2 failed a few times in the beginning but I haven't seen it fail since that.

My other specs:
Intel Core i7-4770K (stock cooler)
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Corsair GS Force Series 1TB
Crucial Ballistix 16GB (8x2) 1,5V DDR3 memory
Silver Power 650W

Please help me, would like to sort this out:)

Best Regards,
Erik

Are you overclocking your card? That sounds like you're just pushing it too hard. An error about drivers pops up when you OC a little too high to the point where things get a little unstable. If you are, try running Furmark again at stock clocks. Restart your computer, and then make sure no OC is applied before running it.

Nope, it's the OC edition - if I use the MSI Gaming app I can set it to normal, gaming and OC. OC is 1050, gaming is 1020, and normal is 500 i think.

Hmm, try turning down the clocks to stock. If it doesn't work at those levels, then I'd normally say that you should just RMA the card, but this would be your third one.

What you can (and probably should do) is double check the other things that can cause instability. The first thing I would guess is the RAM. Maybe they aren't in the slots exactly right. The easiest thing to do for that would be to take them all out and put them in different slots, making sure they are lined up and in securely. You can also try putting your GPU into another PCI-e slot using different power cables from your power supply (if you have another pair of PCI-e power connectors available).

I've ran memtest 2 times, windows memory diagnosis and memtest86+ for 27 hours. All passed. I've tried another PSU when I tested the 2 other cards. Pretty sure it's not the RAM. Only thing I could image would be the PSU then

You have two cards?

Any they worked on another PSU? I thought you only had the R9 280x OC.

Either way, the PSU could be the issue. Take out one of the cards and try it, or if you have already tried with two cards, try one card in a different PCI-e slot just to rule that out before buying another PSU.

Nono. A misunderstanding :) I have tried two GPU's, none worked. Now i've got 1 MSI Radeon R9 280X and 1 PCI x16 slot on my mobo. I don't have any other PSU to try

I see. Well then, go through the things listed here that you haven't tried. Eliminating possibilities for free is always better than throwing money at the problem without there being a guaranty money will fix the problem.
