The SSD runs windows 7 pro. My other 2tb HD is purely storage. The SSD also runs things like Photoshop/Nero/Mozilla.
cmd-prmt tells me the SSD is in RAW format and I can't change anything that way. Nothing has been changed in the 2-3 years I've been operating. If anything there may have been a power surge - PC was set to hibernate and frequently did recently.
I believe I had originally installed the second drive AFTER the SSD was loaded with windows.

I'm sorry for all of the questions here but something is just not making sense. You say that Win 7 is installed on the SSD and that you "popped out the SSD" and got the BSOD, so there HAD to be another OS running on the computer to get the BSOD.

Is there another Windows installation on the HDD?

no no no... sorry for any miscommunication. I DID pop out the SSD and I hooked it up to my computer at work as a slave using a usb drive mate, after I had all these difficulties.

now, once navigating through the SSD as if it were a removable drive, I was able to see all the file folders but after trying to access one, it seems to have frozen me out saying "no longer in location: xxxxx"
...however that makes me realize a possible point, maybe I could install an operating system on that 2tb drive and boot from there? could this possibly gain me access to the files on the SSD?

OK - I see now.

Installing Windows on the 2 TB drive MAY be a solution. Just be sure that the 2 TB HDD is the only drive (besides the CD/DVD drive) hooked up during the installation. Also be sure to use the same User Name. After you finish the Windows installation and install all drivers, then shut down and install the SSD. Reboot and see what you can find.

I must warn you though. From what you have stated, it sounds like the SSD may be done with.

shux, thanks for all the help, I see you have an SSD, ever have any trouble?
this is the first and fatal issue I had... really wish I could save these files. I like running windows off a separate drive so I may eventually reformat this or buy new, just not sure if I should stick with an SSD at this point and not sure what kind of money I wanna spend. My build is pretty good, first home build but it lasted 3 years w/ out a hitch - until out of nowhere, now.

My SSD has never given me a hint of any trouble, but I've only had it for about 9 months now.

What brand/model SSD do you have? Most have a 3 year warranty and some are even 5 yr.
