Hey guys. I have laptop with WIn7 installed and I wanted to replace it with Linux Mint. I set USB; removeable disk to 1st, and even disabled 2nd and 3rd boot option, and my Win7 still gets booted wtf?!

Anyone has any idea what's going on?

accidently clicked "pick as a solution" instead of reply ^^

anyway, I Installed linux on usb via Universal USB installer. It worked as "bootable" usb before I formatted it, then I flashed linux on USB again, not working.

Try creating that USB stick with yumi (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator...) and try to boot from it again.

It basically has the same "layout" as USB Universal installer. Nevermind, I'm creating it at the moment. Will report in a minute or so

I did everything as I was supposed to do, basically when I set 1st boot device to USB, 2nd = disable and 3rd = disable I get this:
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

linuxmint-16-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso

EDIT: not sure if worth mentioning, but YUMI creates 2 folders: multibook and .disk
while USB universal creates boot and 6 or 7 more folders

I can't make this work argghhhh. Could it be BIOS "failure" or something?

What kind of USB stick are you using? I've had problems in the past with certain usb sticks.

I don't know. I got it on a seminar. And I installed Linux with this USB stick on different laptop. I just can't install it on this one -.- not with this USB, not with any other.

Instead of selecting "usb" choose "harddrive" and see if your usb is listed under that option...

Good point! You should check hard drive bbs priorities and look if your usb is listed there.

For future readers who find this solution a little explanation might help.

Some BIOSs will recognize a bootable flash drive as a hard drive. If you go to the BIOS and see a + sign next to HDD in the boot preferences then it is indicating more than one hard drive is available. Click on the plus and you can then promote your USB ahead of the actual hard drive.

I have a theory as to why the BIOS coders would put the USB drive under HDD AND then offer a USB boot option that seemingly wouldn't ever be of use. They were taking a break from quite possibly the least glamorous coding there is and were smoking some of that special tobacky they got out in California and one of the said "You know what'd be funny..."

It's not disabled if it boots. does your USB show up in the BIOS, ie kingston travelmate or just USB?
