Switch Dead | Possibly from wrong power supply cord used?

I moved internationally with about 50 different power adapters... I couldn't figure out which one goes to my TRENDNET S80g 8port network switch after the mess so I plugged one in which I thought was the matching one (these things, I now learn, almost never carry the product manufacturer's matching name startlingly).

The power light blinked rapidly and didn't stabilize, so I unplugged it. It wants a 5v @ 1A input.

So I found one of those (again it does NOT look like the one in the picture of the item I bought off NewEgg... but 1. NewEgg sells a different version now and 2. I've been told, as mentioned above, that sometimes these adapters are just mixed/matched/substituted, so I don't know).

HOWEVER with this new plug (or a few others i've tried), the switch will not power on.

**I'm wondering if it could be dead from having used a power supply with too much amperage? Can this happen?

***I may simply have lost the power cord to this unit, but now I'm wondering if I just need to buy a new unit altogether...

Thanks in advance...

Speaking from experience... yea, you fried it like an egg.

You can't always match brands, but any electronic sold from any reputable company will always have expected output/input labelled on the device and the plug.

Yeah I found the 'correct' plug for it... but it's not powering on... I think the first one I tried was a 12v (against a 5v desired input)...

I'm pretty surprised, as this sort of thing has never happened to me, but I can only assume here that... it burned out from the higher voltage, even though it was only applied for maybe 30s. I do... perhaps this is an implanted memory... seem to remember an electrical smell...
