I have a desktop that has a modem and a router connected to it, so our laptops get internet too. I recently made a new desktop for myself (we still use the other one) in my room and I wanted to connect it to the internet we already had. I bought a 50ft ethernet cable, and I connected it to the router, except I didnt get internet. How can I get internet on the new cable?

PS: currently, the old desktop has an ethernet cable running from it to the router. From the router, another ethernet cable goes to a modem, and from the modem, a coaxel cable runs to the wall.

Well, several things could be wrong. You could have an incorrect IP configuration on the machine, the NIC could be bad, the cable could be bad, a firewall may be causing issues, ect. I can list a few things for you to try first

-ping 127.0.0.1
-connect the cable to another workstation and see if it connects to the network/use a cable tester
-issue the ipconfig /all command at the command line
-ping the default gateway
-try disabling the firewall
