Mouse won't track when connected to hub. Also other issues.

Hi!

I have a couch setup, going from my PC in one room, through the wall and in to another room where said couch is. I have a 5 metre (16 feet) long USB extension cable which connects to a usb hub. The hub has it's own power source from a wall wart.

Now for the issue.
When I connect the mouse directly to the PC, it tracks just fine on the mouse pad. However, when I connect it to the hub, it refuses to track on anything but a wooden table and paper. This is weird.

Everything is USB 2.0, however, the hub won't work unless I connect it to a usb 3.0 port on my PC. I don't think this relates directly to the mouse tracking issue, but I just think this is weird as well.

The mouse is a Razer Imperator 2012 ED. The other device I'm currently connecting to the hub is a Razer Arctosa.
Another thing I'm wondering about, is why my headset won't work when connected to the hub. It works just fine when directly connected to the PC, but when connected to the hub, all I get is static in stead of real audio, and the mic barely works. The headset is a Razer Megalodon.

Any help is appreciated!

According to USB Cable Length Limitations: The USB specification limits the length of a cable between high speed (USB 3.0) devices to 5 meters (16 feet 5 inches) and for low speed devices (USB 1.0 and 2.0) the limit is 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches).

So, your signal send from your mouse is too weak by the time it reaches your pc.

You need a mouse that support USB 3.0 like Corsair Vengeance M60. I think Razer Imperator 2012 ED is USB 2.0 so anything beyond 3 meters is too long.

I have never use a signal amp cable, so can't help you in that aspect, but it does help to achieve that distance you want. How reliable is it? i don't know. If you can find one that uses external power, then that is good. If it doesn't, it most likely won't be reliable if it is using the usb plug to power itself

Upgrading to USB 3.0 cable won't help if your device is not USB 3.0

Thanks again!

The Razer mouse is an the mouse I used before, I have a new mouse now, but I wanted to use the old mouse on the couch. I tried the new mouse, a Corsair Vengeance M95, and that tracked fine on mouse pads. That mouse is USB 2.0, this is still very weird.
I guess I could live with moving my new mouse back and forth from the couch and my rig.
But there is still the question of why my headset won't work on the but with the ext. cable. Do you have any idea what is causing the headset to fail? I think there is an amp built in to the base of the headset, could that be starved of signals?

It is the quality of the cable. The regular 3.5 mm wire does a bad job in keeping the signal clean. My old computer speaker even picks up local radio signal and that is only 1.5 meters long. You can try buying a better wire that is thick for better quality

Edit: i looked up your mic and it is a common issue. In my opinion, Razer products are junk. Here is a possible solution posted (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCwQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cravingtech.com%2Fhow-to-fix-razer-megalodons-microphone-noise-problem.html&ei=9Q9HU9ehEaatsASu5oDICA&usg=AFQjCNF5llppks-SYO_MCtiqkHZAg1Oh6A&bvm=bv.64507335,d.cWc)

I forgot to mention that the headset use usb, not 3.5mm jacks.
There's nothing wrong with the headset when it's directly connected to the PC, it's only when I connect it to the hub on the end of the extension cable.
