If you are using a computer to game, You can just its built in sound card.

As for sound, Some HDMI equipped screens will have a headphone jack on them for audio out.

Make sure you have the correct audio drivers installed, open up your case and verify that the audio ports on the front of your case are connected to the motherboard correctly. The manual for your motherboard will show you which pinouts are the correct ones. I would be more concerned with why our audio ports don't work on your computer before trying to find a monitor with a workaround.

But other than that, usually a computer monitor has better response times than an HDTV, but if that doesn't bother you much just make sure the TV you are looking at has some sort of a gaming mode so you do not have mouse input lag.

If you have Windows Vista/7/8 Please check your sound settings. Windows may well have made your HDMI port the default audio device. If this is a case it is just a matter of selecting VIA HD Audio from Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Playback and setting it as default.
