How to power on a Modular Powersupply without motherboard?

I have been searching everywhere to find an answer to this and currently i am out of luck! How do I turn on my mod without a mobo? It's a ULTRA old moduler that has thick cables (silver colored) and im to scared to cut the thick wrappings to see the color for the clip method.... can anyone help??.... Im going to be using this PSU to power my fan controllers and some other components later..

If it is a "ultra" old PSU make sure you have a load on it before power it on as "OLD" switching Power supplies have a tendency to BLOW with no Load.

If you mean wattage, its a 500 watt psu

Load = what is connected to the individual power output (voltage wires)
IE if you connect a 1 ohm resistor (This is a load) across the +12 Volt PSU output then you get
12 Amps of current (12/1 =12) and the Power = Voltage x current or 12 V x 12 A = 144 watts of power.
a PSU wattage (ie 500 W) rating just identifies max capability
