Using a toggle switch to control case fans...

I have a system that I use mainly for web design/casual use during the day and for gaming in the evening.

There are 3 case fans and I've discovered that during light use I don't really need them at all and the temps barely change without them. I put silence at a pretty high premium and the case fans add a lot of noise for little benefit. When I game the case fans are actually needed to keep case temps down.

My thought was to rig a toggle switch to control the case fans through a simple molex connector.

Would something like this be sufficient to control 3 case fans safely using it on one of the 12v leads from the PSU?

I'm basically planning to daisychain the 3 fans and use this switch in front of it to turn them on and off.

use a dashpot or multiposition switch instead... that way you can optimize it when needed, not just On/Off

Could you link me a part like you're describing? I'm not sure which would be correct for the usage I'm planning.

There are also applications that will automatically adjust the fans if your system supports it.

Ya, I've seen those before but I'm not really interested in spending the money if I can just toggle them on and off with a single switch. I'm fine with that.

Unfortunately, my mobo does not allow for separate control of the case fans, just the CPU fan.

But a single switch like I linked should be fine for 3 fans, correct?

I'd still look for a 3 or 4 position switch... Off, low, med, and high... Options, the last thing you need is to burn something due to lack of airflow...
