Hey guys, just picked up the new asus g750 with the 870m in to replace my samsung ativ book 8. Love it so far, only updated ssd and windows.

Question is, I bought crucial ballistix sport ram, 8gb timings 9-9-9-24 1.35v. When i put it in either bottom or top ram slots, my computer wont boot. The light is on indicating its powered, but screen stays unlight. Yet when i remove the ram, the laptop starts just fine?

I know haswell needs ddr3l and 1.35v which is identical to what this is. It also worked just fine in the samsung i just pulled it out of.

Laptops can be very picky with DRAM and unfortunately few offer options to change DRAM voltage or timings, which is what you play with to adjust them to work in desktops

Well, voltage is what is recommended and is also preinstalled on laptop, and as far as timings, i thought that if it were faster or slower the computer just used what it could being limited by the slowest timing and causing the faster timing to run slower.

Is it the 860m or the 870m model?

Sorry, completely my bad there. It was the 860m. But I have since then also picked up the 880m model as well. Trying to determine if I need the added graphics card boost or not. But have also tried the ram in the new 880m model, had to take out two sticks that came with, and it still doesn't boot. That was a few days ago, and since then have sent in my ram back to company via rma, should hopefully be getting replacement in the next week or so. Then I can see if it is indeed bad ram, or if it was timings and the sort.

But question, if the ram comes back and still doesn't work. Then if I ordered another 8gb stick of that same ram, then took out the original 2x 4gb sticks from inside the laptop and replaced with my 2x 8gb that don't work. Would that work?
Like is it that my ram and the laptops existing ram aren't comparable>

I'd really like to know, so I don't order another $80 stick of ram to be left with the same problem. As otherwise I'm going to spend another $80 on a different ram. I figure best $80 spent would be on the same 8gb stick and running 16gb that way, and having 2x 4gb stock sticks to try and sell, vs spending $80 on another 8gb stick that's different than the one I already have, and then hope that works, then try and sell my first purchased 8gb stick?

My G750JM came with 2 4gig sticks of SAMSUNG mem, i later added 2 4gig sticks of Crucial memory. I have had no problems at all with booting and windows 8.1 sees all my memory (16gigs).

BLS4G3N169ES4 9-9-9-24 1.35v
is the model of the memory i used.

Now the Ram in the laptop is a CLS11, not sure of the timings but they are CLASS11, the Crucials are CLASS9. Not sure why urs would not work though since im not having any problems at all. If I was you i would order another 8gig stick and remove ur other STOCK sticks that came in the laptop. Should be fine then. At least youll know you running all the same timings and if it still dont work try the memory one by one in all the slots. You may have a bad slot.
