This are my current specs

CPU:- i7-2600 non K
CPU coller:- Purex DLX-CW919 LGA1150/1155/1156 CPU Cooler $9.99
Mother Board:- Asus P8Z77-V LK 1155 Chip Set ( Missing the i/o shield :D )
Ram:- 4*4 16 GB DDR3... low profile; DDR= Double Data Rate. 800MHz in CPU-z is the same as DDR3-1600
SSD:- Two 128 GBSamsung 840 pro
GPU:- PNY GTX 460 1GB XLR8
PSU:- Corsair CX Series 600 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze
Case:- Corsair Carbide Series 200R Compact ATX Case CC-9011023-WW
Fans:- Intake:- Front, Bottom, Side Panel (blowing on to the GPU ... freakin loud); Exhaust:- Back, 2 on top... so 6 in total, the 4 fans are generic Foxconn 4pin PWM fans and the other 2 came with case corsair 3 pin fans... (using cable splitter)
Display:- HP ZR2740w Resulation 2560*1440 60Hz... one heck of a monitor

If I get a GTX 780 and a Noctua NH D-14 CPU air cooler; can I play games with ultra settings?

If I want to overclock the CPU I have two issues:-

1. non k processors dosen't OC that well
2. Asus P8Z77-V LK is not a great overclocking MB

What do you guys think? should I get the GTX 780 with my current non k CPU, and try to overclock it ? (At least I can reuse the GTX 780 GPU and the Noctua NH D-14 air cooler in future build)

Am I going to get better performance combining GTX 780 with i7-3770k / i5-4670k / i7-4770k and with a better overclocking motherboard??

Is the i7-2600 non k is a strong enough CPU to support GTX 780 so that overclocking and good motherboard wont even count?

The only reason I am even thinking about overclocking the CPU because I am not sure if its going to bottleneck the GTX 780 GPU.

It's going to vary completely by the game.

Some games will be slightly bottlenecked with the GTX780 i7-2600 combo, and others won't be.

For example: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/06/12/intel-core-i5-4670k-haswell-cpu-review/5

Skyrim is more demanding on average, and we see a difference when overclocking the Intel CPU's (oh, poor AMD... ). However, you would have to decide if it's worth the money for an i5-4670K + Z87 motherboard (or similar).

Personally, I recommend putting that money into a G-Sync monitor after they come out such as a 27", 2560x1440 144Hz (I'd prefer IPS@60Hz. but I don't know when those will be out).

I have a 27", 1440p monitor and it's just glorious, though it's not G-Sync. I game mostly at 1920x1080 as it looks similar to 1440p though there are quite a number of titles that benefit from 1440p (mostly top-down, "god" titles).

Google Linus from Techtips, and "one week with G-Sync" and others if interested.

Hello,

i7-2600 is absolutely enough to play modern games on high-ultra settings.
Current games depend on GPU (video card) and you are going to take a very decent one.

If you have some money to waste you may go for new i7-4770k (about 330$) with a new motherboard (about 160$).

Also the non-k version are not overclockable. I am not sure about i7-2600, but the max multiplier for my e3-1230v3 (wich is i7-4770 without igpu) is 37.

If you are going for hard cpu or gpu overclock I would recommend at least 700w 80 Gold PSU.

Thanks emdea22!!

I tried the AS SUITE II which comes with ASUS Motherboards, it over clocked the CPU to 4.326GHz, BUT when I run the O.C.C.T test the core 0 reaches 127 degrees.... need a far better cooler I guess. If I can get the same kind of clock rate with the Noctua with lower temps.... it should be win win..

But still, is there any slight chance I might be bottle-necked with this cpu even with out overclocking?

Thanks for you suggestions Miyconst,

I think I am gonna buy the Noctua cooler and the GTX 780 for the time being, lets see how it runs,
I am going to wait it out till the price drops for i7-4770k / i5-4670k +motherboard; then I will just build an entire new rig with other new components like PSU, case, case fans, RAM's, etc... keeping the GTX 780 and Noctua CPU cooler of course.

Glad if it helped. Smart decision by the way.

Most likely temperature is reported wrong. CPUs haven't grown much since your generation so if you plan on playing at 800x600 any cpu will bottleneck that card, but if you plan on playing on your monitor's native resolution you will be fine. That CPU has plenty of juice left, don't worry, if you'll upgrade you're gonna be spending hundreds of dollars for a few fps more - not worth it!

Btw check back with some results after your purchase if its not too much hassle.

If I only get the GTX 780 and don't overclock the i7-2600 ( because I am thinking to wait for NH-D15, and don't wanna OC with the stock cooler ) am I going to face any performance issues?
Other way to put it:- Do I need to overclock i7-2600 to get the best performance out of GTX 780?
