I bought a M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard forgetting to check the pciexpress version. My graphics card is R7240-2GD3-L asus radeon card. Plugged it in, doesn't work. It works in the old mb, but i don't have sata 6gb/s on that one. Is there some way to force my mb to accept the graphics card? is there something i'm missing?

THAT MOBO HAS PCI EXPRESS 2.0 BUT CARDS WHICH HAVE PCI EXPRESS 3.0 ARE ALSO DOWNWARD COMPATIBLE TO PCI EXPRESS 2.0
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLUGGED IN THE CARD ON x16 SLOT(CLOSEST TO THE CPU)

Yeah, I've been building my computers for 10+ years. Its been 2 years since i upgraded anything tho. Idk, maybe just compatibility issue, or perhaps power issue? I'm only running 450w. but i don't have a lot of extras, just solid state drive 1 hdd, and video card...

Yeah, so.
I should have started with my configuration.
450psu, asus M5A97 LE R2.0, adata 125gb ssd, 400gb hdd, and a asus radeon R7240-2GD3-L. That's all i have in the thing. When i put this old 6450 radeon in, works fine. When i put the other one in, nothing happens. I guess i just send it back to where i bought it, citing "compatibility issues." Thx for your input.

I think its a power issue. I unplugged everything but the mb, cpu, ram, and graphic card. It still didn't work. Everything I've researched says that I only need 300 watts. However, all the power sites only show the r7 240 card, and I think its the 1gb card. I have the 2gb card. I talked to a friend and he said I need at least 300 watts for just the graphic card. I only have 450. So, I'm pretty sure that's it. So, I'm returning the mb and getting a new power supply and I'm going to upgrade the mb at a later time. Thx again to those who helped.
