i7 or I5 ?

It all comes down to this, I have been planning to get my build (pentium) to be upgraded for about a year now.

I got 2 choices

1. use my current motherboard : H61 chipset and buy core i7 3770k or i7 3770 non-k

2. buy a board : z87 and buy an i5 4670k

what will be the smart move ?

Depends for which purpose you would use it ,
Both these processors would perform the same when it comes to gaming.
They will however differ in perfroamnce when you run any programs/softwares on it which are CPU Intensive like rendering , aniamtion , video editing all that stuff.etc
Does H61 board work with i7 3770k , if yes go for it !
Dont take the K model if you are not gonna overclock.

If your gonna do normal photo editing even the 4670K should be Ok
But again your gonna do both take the 3770 and save your costs , this way you dont require a new motherboard , considering your old mobo supports this.

The OP already has a H61 motherboard , instead he should save money and take i7 3770.
If he takes 4670k he will again have to take a new mobo as he mentioned in his point no 2
