My desktop PC has recently started having problems with playing the most up-to-date games. I was looking at some new GPUs and i thought about buying the GeForce GTX 750 Ti. It fits to my price-range but im afraid that it would have incompatibilities with my current system.

My PSU: GPS-550AB-A
My motherboard: ASUS PSQ SE/R
current graphics card: GeForce GTS 250

I did some research on my own and concluded that GeForce GTX 750 Ti should be compatible with my PSU and motherboard. I would like to ask if there is anything else i should be looking out for when it comes to compatibility. Also, is this new card even able to give me the boost in games performance i am looking for? I am not upgrading any other parts of my computer.

In general terms - No. You will not have a problem with graphics card being compatible or not with your system.

However - I see you are running fairly old motherboard and you didn't say what CPU you have. You may well find that putting in a new graphics card with an old CPU doesn't get you that big of an improvement in gaming performance because the CPU isn't up to modern standards. If you have a Core2Quad or Core2Extreme in there, then you probably survive without getting a new motherboard/chip/ram for a little longer, but if you have something with less horsepower (Core2Duo or lower) then I'd advise you put the money into a new system rather than just the graphics card.

I know it's a tough decision, and one that I've had to make myself. I'm still running on a Core2Quad and although I did put a new GPU in 18 months ago then next time I upgrade it'll have to be a completely new system.
