Hi, guys newbie here hope you can help. Problem: using a win7 pc running fine and has done for 6 months normally not online but recently done a windows update without any problems, today I was viewing a picture in picture viewer and went to zoom in the screen went half magenta and froze then a blue screen came up with a atimdag.sys fault which I believe to be an ati driver / card issue it then started to do a crash dump etc then shutdown and started but I have now lost nearly all my icons and files, and it seemed to start the win 7 install again and now it says its a fake copy of win7 and wont accept my key which is on the coa label on the pc.......can anyone help.

hi,

try a system restore first, i'd say. here's what to do:

start the computer and keep pressing f8 to see boot menu.

choose: safe mode with command prompt

log in and cmd window, type these:

'cd restore'

then 'rstrui'

will bring up restore window and choose the date before the problem started here, windows update etc.

let it shutdown and start normally and see if it's ok

cheers

Hi thanks, done that and no restore points listed although I did do it via restore function I think through control panel not via cmd will this make a difference?
