Have you tried un-installing the drivers first? If not, try this before re-installing.
If you still receive the error, then I would suggest using a program called DDU:

This will completely remove all traces of the drivers from your system. Both Nvidia and AMD driver un-installer never completely removes the drivers back to Windows default.
Follow their instructions and you won't have any problems. Basically, just un-plug the net right before you try and remove the software so when you reboot, Windows won't auto download new drivers (as you already have the good ones downloaded). Create a windows restore point first (right click on My Computer => System Protection tab -> at the bottom, create a restore point). The program will ask you to re-boot in safe mode and will do this for you. Good luck, and let me know if it works.
