want to retrieve picture folder

I have accidentally deleted all my photos from an external hard drive. What do I do to retrieve it?

I first selected all my pictures and moved them in a new folder and then cut and pasted it to my computer's hard disk but when I clicked on the folder(on the computer) there is just one Microsoft document showing up on it.
I have lost all my pictures from the external hard drive! There are no back ups.

You are probably in luck. When you remove files from a hard drive, windows doesn't delete the data, just the pointers to it (unless you use a secure erase tool). As long as you haven't written any new files to the external hard drive, your data should be fully intact.

There are plenty of software programs out there that can find these files. I have personally used GetDataBack and had very good results. (https://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm)

One word of caution, regardless of the tool you use, don't recover the files to the same drive you are searching for the files on, and don't write any data to the drive you are trying to recover files from.
