Internet Connection issue

lately I've been gaming online, and noticing extreme lag. This isn't anything to do with FPS. I have experienced PING over the 50,000 range. Crazy I know.

So just now my internet must have crashed so low, it went offline or something of the sort. When the internet reconnected (still with very high PING) I could browse the net again etc. However, when connected I opened up the 'Network and Sharing Center' and noticed something very peculiar. I am using wireless internet with a Tenda dongle as I am upstairs and the modem etc is downstairs. So, I clicked on the 'Network and Sharing Center' and it told me that I was using a wired connection, with the wired logo. I've triple checked, no change. This is baffling me. I have no idea what's going on and any guidance would be wonderful,
